PTGCC 240-7 (40 overs, J. Smith 75* D. Graham 49 J. Carpenter 45)
Monks Risborough 182 all out (36 overs)
Danny Graham (wk)
Richard O’Hagan (capt.)
An odd game this one, not least because we won it. Jon Smith, a few days after claiming on Facebook that he couldn’t play cricket any more, battered an unbeaten 75. Simon Mason got out first ball to a bowler who conceded over 10 an over when bowling to everyone else, but then took a wicket himself. And the opposition fielded a batsman with the strangest grip on the bat ever.
In short, a fine team performance topped off with some great individual ones. In addition to Jon’s innings, Danny Graham made 49 and then held two great catches behind the stumps – the one at full stretch to his right to get rid of the oppositions one decent batsman was so good, we’ll gloss over the one he dropped by letting it go through his legs. Toby Robinson had a fine all-round return to the side, batting with great maturity to keep Jon on strike, bowling an aggressive five over spell which included the catch mentioned above, and then holding a skier on the boundary to give Jeff a rare wicket (of someone old enough to vote). Jonny Carpenter made his highest score for the club.
Final home game of the season. Second home win of the season. Nice to end on a high note.
Until next time,
