My Club – Richard O’Hagan

I found P&TGCC by happy accident. I had been living in the area for 18 months and been looking for a club for most of that time, but also been being rather distracted by having a newborn son. Then, one day, I overheard John Daniell talking about the club at another social event. I plucked up the courage to speak to him (he’s very approachable really) and he took my business card, explained that he was going on holiday but that someone would be in touch within the next few days.

I thought little more of this. I had had various local clubs promise to contact me and either fail to do so, or only reply to tell me that they were not looking for any players. I was rather surprised, therefore, to receive not one but three emails from various members of the club within the next 48 hours. Moreover, I was instantly included in any emails that were going about, as it I had joined the club already.

What can I say about the club? Well, I have played for many clubs down the years and it is without doubt the friendliest of them all – the sort of club where you can not see someone for a year and then still be greeted by them by your first name (as happened to me recently).

What can I say that would persuade someone new to join the club? Absolutely nothing. Don’t take my word for it. Come along and see for yourself what a great place it is.
